Alberta Dental Association and College kicked off a new charity campaign for all grade one students in Alberta last year. The campaign, Start School Smiling Program, was meant to help elementary students with their various dental needs with the help of ADA&C member volunteer dentists. This year, the charity campaign is about to have its second run which is happening from September 1st to October 31st, 2019.

The advocacy of the charity campaign is to give better dental care to young children who have very limited access to care. It is important for children to understand the importance of oral health as early as possible because oral health relates to the wellness of one’s overall health. ADA&C organized collaborations with dental clinics like Design Dentistry to participate and open their doors for the kids. Design Dentistry will provide a free dental examination, with bitewing X-rays if needed, to all students under age seven.

Don’t Miss The Chance! A Golden Opportunity For Albertan Kids

There is no cost to participate. All you need to do is to call our office to schedule your child’s exam between September 1 to October 31. ADA&C’s purpose in creating this campaign is to make dental care more accessible and affordable for Albertans. Their quest is to bring down the costs of dental care.

Aside from the free examination, ADA&C also developed an Oral Health Education Program to give teachers materials to be able to help children understand the importance of their oral health. It will help them learn some basic information about keeping their teeth clean and healthy. It is also developed for children to be more knowledgeable about good home care practices. This program will give the children a positive start before another school year begins.
